Sorry for my ignorance. I am back in the market after a very long time to shop for an Audio System. I notice that Graphic Equalizers (9-12 Bands) which were used quite about 10 years back (when I got my present Yamaha System) are no longer in stores like Circuit City, Best Buy etc. Is there any reason for it ??
I note that the present receivers have different settings for Jazz, Rock signal attenuation etc. but can you control each and every frequency band with present day (good quality) Receivers as you could do with Equalizers ?
Do I need to buy an Equalizer or not ?
I'm finally transfering my LP's to .aif 88Khz/32fp files via my turntable and am using Adobes's Audition for the processing. The flexibility is great FFT filters e.g. kill the 60 hz Ground loop, Noise reduction Click/Pop eliminator etc. Each of these filters have many variables that look interesting to play with (and you think changes cartridges is exciting), however I'd like to find out if someone has already done this due diligence and has advice on whether to stick with Adobes standard settings or modify them in some way (and why)
I have compared several SACD discs with their original non-SACD versions (for example, the original issue of "American Angels" on HMU and its SACD incarnation). It sounds, to me, like the NORMAL (non-SACD 2 track or surround) layer on the SACD sounds worse than the CD in its original issue. I've heard this difference on Mercs and Living Stereos, too. Shouldn't non-
SACD versions--whether on an SACD disc or the original issue--sound identical? Anyone else experience this?
has anyone heard these guys? I am not really a fan of some contemporary fusion bands but I have to say that these guys are truly phenomenal.. they are contemporary jazz with a strong background in Hip Hop it sounds like but their skill is amazing. I havent come across too many people who are familiar with this group but I have a feeling that they will be very successful in years to come.. here is their main website and so far the only one ive found with their music..
I have been doing some reading (for example at http://deposit.ddb.de/cgi-bin/dokserv?idn=972885544&dok_var=d1&dok_ext=pdf&filename=972885544.pdf) that indicates the nonlinear distortion products generated within the ear have been recorded for analysis. This would seem to imply that the ultimate limits to audio fidelity occur within the ear itself.
