David Byrne's DMCA Rant

David Byrne's DMCA Rant

I love Radio DB and I rave about it all the time. Basically, Byrne programs about two hours of streaming music, which he changes each month—usually thematically linked—and I usually end up buying one or two (or more) of the discs he streams from.

How does the old turntable "stack up"?

Hi, All,

I own an Acoustic Research ES-1 ("New AR") turntable, set up with a Rega RB-300 tonearm.

The tonearm is mounted on a custom-made aluminum armboard, which was available from Audio Advisor into the early 1990s.

This same setup was, at least until recently, used by Sam Tellig, although I understand he now uses a different tonearm on his AR, as a better match for his newest favorite cartridge.

Sam has stated in the past that he felt this setup was comparable to a Linn LP-12, although there are probably a few who would argue that point!

Surround Speaker Placement Question?

Hey guys,

I have a 5.1 Speaker System, that comes with 5 satellite speakers. I have a question regarding the surround speakers placement. I have two choices. I can place my those speakers about two to three feet above my ear level, but it would be a little in front of where I would be, because I have no way of mounting one of the speakers to be just to the side of me. The other choice is to mount both of them directly to the side of me, but between 4-5 feet above my ear level. Which is a better choice. I mainly watch movies, etc. Thanks.
