I picked up a pair of magnepan 1.5s from an audiophile friend who has since went on to meet the great audiophile in the sky. I know that he has entrusted me with these beasts because I would do right by them. The only amp that I currently have is a adcom 3500 and it barely pushes enough juice for one of these bad boys. I currently have some surround sound klipsch's that I use for my home theater so I want to add these guys in as pure music enjoyment. I would greatly appreciate some imput on what would set em off.
I have found that there are numerous dvds being released of shows that are not available in an artist's cd catalog. As an example, I recently purchased the 30th Anniversary Edition of the Boss' Born to Run. It contains a dvd of a show he and the band did in London in 1975. The show and the sound of the dvd are fantastic and there is nothing like it in his cd catalog. I wanted to play the music from the dvd in my car and two channel system so I looked for software to take just the audio from the dvd. I found a program called DVD Audio Extractor.
I've been running an old NAD 7400 receiver (125 watts/ch with higher short term output) into my Thiel CS6s. No major complaints, though maximum volume is restricted due to harshness above a certain level and I use a sub (Sunfire) to augment low bass. The combination sounds great on simple material (solo voice or guitar, small rock or jazz combos) but congests quickly when the signal is more complicated.
Room is vaulted 25x25, 1/2 wall open, 1/2 wall windows.
Now in the market for amplification. Looking for used less than $4K. Will keep the receiver as pre-amp for now.
Just bought both the 3.5 amp and cd player. Would it be advisable to purchase the x-10v3 in between?
