The Evolution Store

Believe it or not, I once had a cow-orker say to me, "You know this kind of stuff, where can I rent or buy a human skeleton?" She was right, upon reflection I did know. When we called, the shop asked, "Does it have to be real or will a teaching replica suffice? They're a lot cheaper."

Need Preamp Recommendation (Art D. can you help me?)

Forums

I'm looking for a stereo preamp around 2-3 $k to go with my cyrus cd8x player. I haven't seen any reviews of affordable preamps..Am I missing something? I'd prefer it had balanced outputs. I have read the review of the Lynn Climax Control, and I drooled over the lab measurements but its price is out of my range. Am I out of luck?

Thiel CS 2.4

Being the slow, lip moving, long digesting reader that I am, I am just now really thinking about the November review of the Thiel CS 2.4.

I am finally starting to have the light-bulb-over-the-head feeling about the impedance curves and how they can reveal so much about a speaker's design and the effect of these impedances in reflecting the sound of a speaker. Thanks for that!

Really dumb cable question.

Forums

Aloha,

Apolgies for my lack of insight, but what would happen to a cable that you decided to modify from the outside by wrapping it with different things?

Could you wrap a power cord or audio cable in tin foil and "shield" it?

Would that create inductance inside the cable?

Could you wrap it in a nonconductive material and change any characteristics?

How about wrapping it in that black electrical tape?

Could you dip it in latex that's been mixed with sand to dampen it from physical vibrations?
