Need to review old Reel-2-Reel tapes

I have a Pioneer RT-707 Reel-2-Reel deck that needs to be refurbished. Or, depending on the cost/availability of this service, I'm not opposed to finding a new or like-new deck (cheaper, even). I have boxes of old tapes I'd like to go through, and I'm mainly interested in transferring the keepers to digital. Any advice?

Amp for Monitor Audio Silver S8's

Forums

Hi. I'm looking for some recommendations to power my Monitor Audio Silver S8's. Have listened to them on Rotel RA03 and am thinking something around that price range (either new or second hand) but would like some other recommendations before purchasing. Have also had a look at (but not a listen to) Cambride Audio's Azur 640A and NAD C352CT. Also wonding what sort of power would be recommended for driving the speakers sufficiently. Was wondering whether 65W/70W (at 8ohm) per channel would give good sound at a medium listening level in a large space (100m2 rectagular room)?

Computer Speakers

I am in search of a decent 2.1 system for my laptop. I haven't been able to find a system that produces quality sound for music genres ranging from Classical to Metal. All of my speakers in the past have been damaged by any loud rock or metal music, when playing the music at a reasonable volume. Any thoughts?

Digital for me

I think sony red book cd and sacd or dvd-audio format is not a good approach to digital.
i think storing audio data with error checking bits(like our computer files on hard)is a better solution, tell me why?
1. cd quality will reduce accross time with playing it with transport laser beam and we should buy same album from local store
2. sound quality will not decrease when we copy albums to our PC
2. no need to buying good transport and sound quality depends only to DAC(analog design) quality
4. we can download and share albums with each other for reducing cost

Lester Bangs on Brian Eno

Lester Bangs on Brian Eno

Remember when the writing about music was as great as the music itself? Even when I violently disagreed with Bangs (his review of David Bromberg's first album, for instance), he wrote so hard and hot, I had to respect that it was his opinion and not just the music critics' party line. When he loved something, he conveyed what it was he loved better than just about anybody. (Except perhaps for Ian MacDonald, but that was the subject of a post yesterday.)
