Newbie needs help

Hi, I am new to Hi-Fi home stereo although I know a little about headphone hi-fi. I was recently about to blow all my money on a pair of Grado RS-1's, a Ray Samuel's Emmeline 2 The Raptor amp, a Lavry Black DA10 D/A converter, and a yet to be chosen SACD player.

Of Thunder and Heavier Things

Last night, I sat down for a bit with Anthony Hamilton and his open road. You're what I want. You're what I need. You touch the deepest part of me. And these loose and tenuous warbling riffs stretched out wide across my windows, parting the curtains and welcoming in the neon lights from the bar on the other side of Monmouth.

Quantum Computing

SciOrg is reporting that an optical-based quantum computer has successfully demonstrated "counterfactual computation," which is to say it came to its conclusion using information that is counter to what actually happened to reach a correct answer. Also, the computer did not actually run.

Slate On Bob Marley

Slate On Bob Marley

I'm a reggae snob, so I began reading this article with suspicion. I was wrong, Field Maloney knows his Wailers—and he knows that the Wailers' best recordings are seldom heard here in the 'States. If you haven't heard Soul Rebels, African Herbsman, and Rasta Revolution, you haven't heard them at their best. The American releases were way too prettied up and defanged. If you think you love Bob Marley, you must hear African Herbsman. Full stop—end of story.

Looking for Home Theatre advise

I am looking for a good home theatre system for my husband. I have been told that the infinity primus 360 ($450/pair) along with the primus 150 ($130/pair) and the primus C25 ($90) is the way to go. What do you guys think? Also what would be an ideal reciever for this? Any help would be appreciated!!!

Cool place to check out performance!

I like to check out different and new composers, conductors, performances etc. here: http://www.eclassical.com/

I know, I know mp3s are not audiophile approved but, these are non-DRM files encoded at decent quality 192 kbps.

Example from site:

Tchaikovsky - Piano Concerto in B flat minor, single file download (entire work)

Complete version of Tchaikovsky's Piano Concerto in B flat minor, three movements. By many considered to be his fore-most work, one of the most popular piano concertos ever written.

Just purchased a set of these 2 way bookshelf speakers.

Very nice balanced sound, sweet highs and midrange. What you've read about the Focal Beryllium tweeter is true.

Adequate bass. Beautiful cabinetry and the single set of speaker posts are the nicest I've seen.

Highly recommended and a must audition if your are shopping in the $4K range.
