In one of Stephen Mejias' blog posts, he notes the precise alignment of his speakers. How precisely have you set up your speakers in your main system?
Over the years I have enjoyed reading Stereophile. The magazine offers unique ( and comprehensive ) reviews by including Both - Subjective reviews and objective tests - the latter by Editor John Atkinson.
JA has often revealed technical inadequacies or sometimes even poor design or implementation, in the reviewed products.
I was therefore RATHER surprised to see his comments during the Chord 14000 Ultimate Review.
This US $ 75,000 Ultimate Power Amplifier from Chord is (supposed to be ) a 1000 Watt / 2000 Watt power amplifier into 8 ohms / 4 Ohms.
Gentlemen,
My Most Significant Other has accepted that I change my speakers (B&W's Matrix 3 Series 2 3-way floorstanders, 20 years old). I want something good, and I cannot go wrong (or else endure it for the next 20 years
) neither with the speakers or the amplifier that drives them.
My listening room is 5 meters x 4 meters (roughly 16' x 13'). My musical preferences go with classical piano, chamber music, opera / vocals and the occasional jazz. I need 2 speakers. No Home Cinema.
My Yamaha R-100 reciever died today, I loved that machine!!
With todays technology, whats the best way to update my system. I have a t.v., CD burner, 5 disc changer, dual vcr editing unit, in my entertainment system, and need to buy a new reciever or??? ANY SUGGESTIONS???
