Inexpensive amp for Dynaudio Contours

Forums

I am on a tight budget buying a house etc. My wife "loves" the look of the Dynaudio Contours S3.4s, and I love the sound. However, that in itself will eat up a majority of my two channel audio budget (listening room 15ft w 12ft d 9ft h). I need descent amplification to last me a year or so until I upgrade.

My choices:
1. I have an old Adcom 5400II amp. What used preamp from Audiogon should I match with it? Or should I chunk it for better sound?

Why Stupid Networks Are Betterer

Why Stupid Networks Are Betterer

Fractals of Change argues that "stupid" networks (such as the Internet) are better than "smart" ones (networks configured to allow certain machines running specific software to operate in ways their designers have anticipated). Smart networks may be more efficient when accomplishing those goals, but they don't necessarily work better (or even at all) when you try to do stuff the designers haven't anticipated.

Oil-Dri as speaker stand fill?

I've got some Paradigm Signature S4s on the way and the J-23 stands. I've always had floor standing speakers in the past so this is my first experience with stands. One of my concerns with fill is moisture, so I wondered if Oil-Dri might be a reasonable material to use. My local Sam's club sells it by the 50 lb. bag, and I happen to have an unopened bag at the moment. I don't believe Oil-Dri is corrosive so I don't think it would hurt the stands, but as I've only used it on epoxy covered concrete that may be an incorrect assumption. Good idea or bad idea?
