My power amp's specifications goes like this :
Overal gain & sensitivity : 26db or 32db;141 mv or 71 mv ( user selectable)
Input impedance : 36k or 600 ohms (user selectable)
I am think of replacing the pre that goes with the above power amp. What specifications should i be looking for to be a good match? ie,what should be the pre's optimal output impedance etc etc ? Is there a possibility of a missmatch such as the pre not having enough output level to drive the power amp to full power or perhaps too much output level so that it might overload the power amp ?
Loved the "classic speakers" thread. Now for a slight twist, name the best sounding loudspeakers you have ever heard, period. I'll start, and my answer is easy: a pair of klipschorns playing Paul Simon's "Graceland" at Flip's Stereo in St. Louis, MO in 1986. A huge, lively room that was ideal for the big cornerhorns, and a great recording of great music -music that also was a good match for horns. I can't really think of any music reproduction experience that compares to that one. In fact, I'd have to think hard to come up with any live music experience that beats it much!
Hola,
Gots a remedial question:
What with all these new digital amplifiers, I hear stuff about "switching noise."
I can't find anything about the frequencies at which this can be heard.
The switching frequency I can find is 400 kHz, so I'm not that astute as to where digital amp artifact affects the sound.
So, my questions are...
Where in the audio band width does this artifact show up?
I suspect at higher frequencies, so question two:
I have the Charlie Haden Quartet West disc "Haunted Heart" which includes Jo Stafford singing the Title track with Paul Weston and His Orchestra in December 1947. My wife loves this track and would like for me to purchase one of Jo Staffords' discs.
Research shows her catalogue is quite extensive, and before I purchase her "greatest hits" disc I thought I would survey the forum members for recommendations.
While your at it, I wouldn't mind adding another Charlie Haden disc to my collection.
Much appreciated in advance.

Jazzfan has been in pig heaven all afternoon. WKCR-FM has been playing the music of jazz great Sam Rivers since noon today in honor this evening's Sam Rivers Lifetime Achievement event in lower Manhattan. As part of the Vision Festival XI Sam Rivers will be honored tonight. Why Mr. Rivers is not being honored as part of the better known and bigger NYC jazz festivals is a real disgrace and Sir Wynton should be ashamed of himself. Oh I forgot, they're doing Ornette this year, only one "wild man" per year I guess.
In another post RG requested some Charlie Haden recommendations. Gee RG could you ask for something a little less challenging next time.
Charlie Haden has been on I don't know about a billion recording dates over the course of his 45+ year career, so picking a few recommended recordings is just a tad bit overwhelming. Plus throw in the fact that Haden has been on more than a few free jazz milestone recordings and you know how yours truly loves that free blowing stuff...well this could get to be trouble.
