Just a couple of questions

For the most part loved the July issue.
But!!!!
The reference to the K-S cables as being "among the quietest I've used". Do other cables really add noise?
I bet an open cable would be very quiet.
And in the Conrad Johnson review do you mean that teflon capacitors don't meet their specs when new but change their value after use? If so by how much do they change? Is it within their tolerence? If not why are they using such crap?

Fantastic Issue

Great issue. How to rebuild a Quad, room correction and Keith Howards Down Deep article. Technical data. Love it.
But could Keith explain the definition of "phase distortion"? Is he refering to simply phase shift vs frequency? Not to infer that phase shift is not important. I understand phase shift caused by a electrical circuit such as a crossover, but I am having trouble grasping the concept of phase distortion caused by a speakers inherent bass rolloff.
Especially if the speaker is flat down to the lower frequencies of hearing.

Olde Audio Junkie

I like reading about good old Quads coming back after insane efforts by whacko enthusiasts, and new Quads being made even better, and perhaps a bit less costly, in China.

I like listen to audio junk. Old, new, prototype, unknown origin, it is all fun.

And Richard V is an interesting king in the speaker mfg kingdom, he keeps bldg good stuff

July is a good issue. Mine arrived today, 6/16, seems plenty early.

CML or Puro audio products. Have you heard of them?

Forums

I've been looking for a 5.1 system and stumbled upon this
Based on the $800-$1,000 price range I see on the internet, Overstock's price of $269 looks pretty good. I can't find any good info about the company or the product though. Has anyone heard of either CML or Puro? Are their products any good?

First Post!

Thanks for your help.

Back at the end of September 2005, I dropped by Jonathan and Kathleen Scull's Chelsea loft after work. I can't remember why; I think I was returning some gear. But we had also just finished shipping the <I>2006 Stereophile Buyer's Guide</I> to the printer that day, and it was possible that I needed some high-quality musical R'n'R. Sitting in Jonathan's listening seat&mdash;the legendary <A HREF="http://forum.stereophile.com/photopost/showphoto.php/photo/450/password… Chair</A>"&mdash;and enjoying the sound of his system, I flashed on the days when he worked for <I>Stereophile</I> full-time and I occasionally used to pop round to his place, just two blocks away from what was then our office, on Manhattan's Fifth Avenue. Whatever components Jonathan was writing about, a consistent factor in the always superb sound of his system was the presence of the pair of <A HREF="http://www.stereophile.com/floorloudspeakers/273">JMlab Utopia</A> loudspeakers that he had reviewed in the April 1998 issue of <I>Stereophile</I>. The Utopias delivered a seamless, full-range presentation that served Jonathan's eclectic taste in music while also allowing him to easily hear the effects, good or bad, of the various tweaks he was always trying.
