I need a pair of amp stands and thought of making my own from MDF and some spikes. Any ideas?

I am still trying to decide on a speaker upgrade under $1,000. I currently have a pair of 20-year-old Mordaunt Short Pearl 20i speakers.

I heard the JMLab Cobalt 806 speakers at a local dealer yesterday and was extremely impressed. I also heard a pair of ELAC FS 207.2 speakers which had a bit more bass and wider soundstage. However, I am not sure that I want to go over $1,000.

Anybody ever use one of these? I am interested in controlling some of the jitter from my computer and this seems like an economical solution.

About 5 years ago I bought a pair of B&W 604 series 2 speakers and a B&W ASW1000 sub. I have been using a cheapo sony receiver, and would like to upgrade the reciever to something better. I don't have an exact price range in mind, I simply want something that will compliment my existing speakers and possibly allow me to upgrade speakers in the future without needing to purchase a new amp. I don't have any preference when it comes to buying seperates or an integrated amp.

I am thinking of changing my SME V's headshell leads with the Cardas.Is this $116 well spend ?
