A Wonderful Essay on Encyclopedias

Well, actually on the 11th edition of the Encyclopedia Britannica, which is a delightful yard or so of bookspace. I used to have this edition, although I didn't realize that many bibliophiles consider it to be the best blend of fact and great writing ever collected. I just read it out of order on many a long winter's night. Somehow, Google just isn't the same.

Yes, I have posted to these before, but I didn't know the back story and the panels were poorly reproduced. Joel Johnson went out and bought Wood's memo to himself and posts high-resolution scans. He also tells us the real story behind "Wally Wood's 22 Panels That Always Work."

Worth The Money? Maybe!!

I have had a small loudspeaker business for several years now,and it's helped to earn a little extra money, and is also kind of a hobby, but one thing I have learned, is to appreciate high-end speakers, and have come to respect their high cost.

Those companys such as Wilson Audio who put countless hours into their speakers, are probably worth every penny!!Their finishes are exquisite,to say the least, and the sound is ALL THERE!!

Hats off to the professional loudspeaker maker!!!!

I am just starting my audio education. There is such huge range of equipment available that I would like to maybe learn a few rules of thumb (if they exist) befor I start demo-ing. I would prefer not to waste my sellers time or my own. I have been researching equipment for a two channel system with a total budget between$5-6,000. It will play in a fairly large room with hard surface floors that is an "L" shape, 9' ceilings with about 14'x25'. Asthetics are somewhat important(married) as is the lack of speaker placement options.
