I have an Akai amp I got while in school in the late 80's. Now when I turn it on and use any component it starts out with low volume and popping and hissing. As I try to turn up the volume it starts to make popping sounds.
It will eventually jump into a normal sound, sometimes only one speaker is affected. But at anytime it goes back to the same problem.
Is it worth while having this looked at or should I just get a new amp?

I have just inherited a Linn LP12 deck which I am obviously extremely happy about! However, It does need a cartridge and my financial situation doesn't lend itself to spending the vast amounts of money that probably should be spent. Can anyone recommend a budget cartridge that isn't going to do the record player too much of a disservice?
I'm a newbie to all of this but am hoping to build up a good system over the next few years. The record player is probably a bit overkill for my needs but hey, I wouldn't want to refuse such an offer!
I'm firmly set on getting the Epos ELS-3's, but have not yet decided on a sub or receiver yet ... looking for suggestions. 60/40 Music/Movies
Was thinking about Denon DRA-395 and either the SVS PB10-NSD or the Klipsch RPW-10
Any recommendations or good matches for the ELS-3 in that range?
Thanks in advance!!
