The La Luce turntable's elegant form usually stops audiophiles dead in their tracks. Then comes a long, low "Wow." I'm hardly immune myself. And that's not even considering the sound, which has always been wonderful, as it was in the Joseph Audio/Cardas room at CES '98.

Have you been moving toward bigger or smaller speakers in recent years?

The conventional wisdom that "bigger is better" doesn't always hold true in audio. High-end speaker systems, for example, have evolved in both directions—some designs have grown enormous while others have almost disappeared entirely. Which trend do you favor?

Sony BMG may have also stopped shipping to Tower, but the <I>Times</I> was not able to confirm those reports.

One of the great sopranos of the 20th century, Elisabeth Schwarzkopf, died in her sleep at her home in Schruns, Austria, on August 3, at the age of 90. The myriad ways in which she employed her remarkably expressive, silvery soprano gave rise to as much admiration and respect as her penchant for incessant nuance, along with her Nazi past, generated controversy.

Advent and Sunfire (Bob Carver) subwoofer?

I recently came across a powered subwoofer that has a Advent metal label and Sunfire Technology printed on the amp/connection plate of the subwoofer cabinet.

I have been unable to find any information regarding this subwoofer by googling any of the advent / sunfire / carver etc. combinations I can come up with.

The subwoofer is a 15" bottom-fire.

Does anyone have any knowledge about this subwoofer?

NAD 304 vs. 3020? help a beginner

hi guys,
im a young guy starting my first real rig. I've come across the oppurtunity to get my hands on either a NAD 304 or 3020B. They would be driving a pair of shelf's with vifa drivers. I am aware the the 3020 is less powerful than the 304, however im not that concern with power, the speakers are qite easy to run.

As a home delivery customer I get the Sunday NY Times Arts and Leisure section a day early. Tomorrow's (8/6) Times "Playlist" by Nate Chinen touts the re-release of the 1967 proto-fusion album by The Free Spirits. This was guitarist Larry Coryell's shot at jazz-rock and frankly it's not very good and is sunk by truly awful vocals and lyrics. But Coryell is escaping blame because The Times says "the band's chief creative force was the guitarist Larry CARLTON"! Newspaper of record?

Cartridge for Dual 522?

Have a 25 year old Dual 522 in good shape. It came with the small Ortofon cartridge custom-designed for that series of turntables, which was supposed to control tonearm resonance. Cartridge was supposed to be equivalent to OM5. I would like to upgrade to something better, e.g OM20 Super, OM30 Super, X3-MC, Grado, I don't know.
What cartridges work well with such a light tonearm?
Is this low end turntable worth the upgrade (will there be a surprise)?
