Plywood speakers

What's this all of a sudden interest in Klipsch, i see they do advertise a lot recently? Come on, plywood public address speakers. All of a sudden are in high end audio systems. And those who mock Legacy WHISPERS, which are a work of art, with sound to match. Plywood PA systems. Klipsch is another old name gone down to Best Buy status. StereoPhile takes it along for the ride. A giant cumbersome UGLY speaker that was developed for PA use decades ago. Is now a current fav.

Getting started

Hello everyone, So I've been on the road working for the last 5 years and suddenly find myself with a house and a crappy old stereo that needs to be replaced... I was hoping some of you might give me some advice for what I should be looking for... I have no problem with new or vintage gear... just want something that will light up if I want to crank it... Now I see some of you guys are pushing the cash envelope... I'll take my time and buy stuff a piece at a time. when i can afford it. but I'm not in that 10,000 for an amp range any help would be great thanks Tonedog

Positive rating for $43K that had the worst measurements in years

First let me say that Michael Fremer has personally been a big help to me in setting up my turntable.

Having said that

Michael - and to some degree Mr. Atkinson - have given a positive review to a Zanden DAC/Transport system that costs over $40k and has some of the worst measurements John has seen in years. (The freq response was horrific)

At one point John tried to explain Michael's positive review by stating that maybe Michael stuck with source material that worked well over the midrange region where the measure flaws were not so bad.

Subwoofer placment question.

Forums

As I'm about to move from an apartment into a house, this will free me to set up my sub again ( a BIG no, no in apartments). Here's my question. What are the advantages/disadvantages of placing the sub directly behind the listening chair (which will be at least six feet from the rear wall and about fifteen feet from the front wall).

The sub in question is a Velodyn DD 12, and the listening area is 30x19 with a cathedral ceiling. This listening space is open to the kitchen/dining area. In other words, we're talking about a lot of room.
