Today's Chicago Tribune business section included some coverage of the International Consumer Electronics Show. The article, by the Tribune's "Technology Guy", takes a slightly different slant from what we're used to reading or might want to read. Here are some excerpts I thought you guys might find interesting.
"The increasing ability to play music from gadgets such as mobile phones and GPS devices is pushing a key group of music fans into the background: the audiophile."
I'm making my first foray into the high(er)-end audio world and I'm now mostly convinced that once I hook up my new sweet speakers (www.tyleracoustics.com, Linbrook Sig monitors) that it is going to sound like my hand-me-down Kenwood surround stereo is powered by a diesel engine, my CD player will sound like finger nails on a chalk board, and that the sound will be so terrible as to offend even my neighbors in their own homes. Seriously.
I currently do not have a pre-amp or receiver that will allow the connection of the HDMI cable. So for the moment, I am sending only the HD video signal to my LCD TV. I have some sort of a mental block. How can this one cable deliver the same quality sound as six separate high quality cables and produce a high quality resolution picture at the same time? I know that the signal stays more pure not having to transfer from digital to analog, but how is the HDMI really better in regards to sound?
