Crown Xti-2000 Hum

Forums

Just hooked up my Crown Xti-2000 to a Crown IC-150 pre-amp, and I have a lot of hum and some buzz. The IC-150 pre-amp outputs are going the Xti-2000 with an RCA to XLR cable. The hum is ridiculous. how do I solve this? I had and Onkyo M504 hooked up to the system just before I hooked up the Crown and there was no hum at all. Can I run the amp with nothing in the inputs just to see if it's the unbalanced leads going into a balanced inputs causing the problem?

How can I guarantee I'm getting a great recording?

I've been a jazz fan for years, but only very recently purchased a mid-fi system(NAD C372 amp, NAD C542 CD player, Vandersteen 1 C speakers. LOVE it!) Anyway, after doing nothing but downloading music for the last few years, I venture back into the good 'ol cd store and grab a few jazz cd's, problem is, some sound like sh%$T!

Which cartridge for fully loaded LP12 and Naim Aro tonearm?

I am about to make the commitment to a Lingo / Linto fully updated LP12 through my local dealer.
He is recommending a Dynavector cartridge DV20X low output as a good start point. My budget is around $600.

I would like to ask him to give me a couple of comparison points and am thinking of

Lyra Dorian
Shelter 501Mk11
ZYX R50 Bloom
van den Hul DDT 11 special

Anyone heard any of the above on a Naim Aro tonearm?

My objective is warmth and musicality to balance the detail and slight forwardness of my all Linn active system.
