Best bass you've ever heard?

Aloha,

I'm thinking today that maybe the hardest part of the sonic spectrum for a speaker to get right is the bass.

I say that because I can think of many examples of excellent/superlative midrange and treble reproduction that I've heard, but far fewer experiences with honest to gosh "correct" bass.

Bass has always been the hardest aspect of the sound for me to get dialed in when I play with system placement, too.

Cable and Fuse Question:

Forums

Hola, I've been wondering about some cable things lately...

Is there an industry other than Hi FI that requires cables/wires be used "pointing/conducting" in the "right" direction?

Same goes for fuses.

Is there another industry that requires high definition fuses for any applications?

It seems that with all the different very sensitive enterprises out that that require the "Nth" degree of sensitivity, low noise, etc... that we'd see these concepts popping up in realms other than Hi Fi.

CD player direct to amp?

i was wondering if its possible to connect a CD player direct to a amplifier, without going through a Pre-amp stage? is there an separate volume controller i can get?. will going directly to the amp give it better sound, since it will be a much more simple connection? i am asking this because i am thinking about getting the Onkyo DX-7555 cd player, but since i am a student and work part time, i dont want to spend too much money at once, and since i already have a 2 channel amplifier.

Was Joyce Hatto the Greatest Pianist Almost Nobody Ever Heard Of?

Was Joyce Hatto the Greatest Pianist Almost Nobody Ever Heard Of?

Many people remember the 1990 Milli Vanilli scandal, in which Rob Pilatus and Fabrice Morvan were stripped of their Best New Artist Grammy award when it was revealed they hadn't actually performed on the disc. Of course, "borrowing" has long been a part of the pop music world, as George Harrison's "My Sweet Lord," Led Zeppelin's "Whole Lotta Love," and almost any sampled recording can attest; however, most listeners have probably assumed things are a lot more straightforward in the world of classical performance and recording.

DEQX and TACT Room Correction

I am trying to decide between the DEQX and TACT 2.2XP systems. My room has serious base problems but it also has issues with higher frequencies due to a fair bit of glass that I cant obscure with curtains etc.

Does anyone know which system is better able to correct high frequencies - DEQX in their white paper says that corrections are more effective at lower frequencies - this worries me. TACT does not have any such disclaimers. Is the processing power/algorith implementations of the two units so different that one would be much better than the other at higher frequencies?

Replacements for Infinity RS525

Forums

I have a pair of Infinity RS525 floor speakers that have lasted a really long time, but now they seem to be in need of replacement. I was wondering what would be a rough equivalent of the 525's nowadays? Are either the Infinity Primus 360 or the Beta 50 close (if not better)? If not, does anyone have any suggestions? I don't want to spend a fortune, but I would like a decent pair of floor speakers.

Thanks!

EDIT: I noticed the Axiom m60 speakers - they are a bit more than I wanted to spend, but how are they generally regarded?
