One bright spot in what was a horrible news day yesterday: Ornette Coleman has won the Pulitzer Prize for music for his live album, "Sound Grammar." Having casually known the man since the sixties (I was his letter carrier in the West Village) I know how much this recognition means to him. And to all of us who care about his music, it's a wonderful thing.
Last Friday night, during an impromptu party, a cute woman from Romania turned my amp up all the way and destroyed my trusty old Infinities that I'd had for 17 years. I am now in the position of needing to buy speakers and I need to be time-efficient about doing so (I may well fix the Infinities but that will take some time). I went to two local stores and frankly they were a drag. The switching devices didn't work, and the salespeople were oriented towards television. So I'm turning to here for any sort of advice. Here is some data in case it helps:
Hello!
I have a Pro-ject Perspective turntable. I am very new to vinyl. There seems to be a big static electricity problem. Sometimes it starts to crackle while playing. If I then lift the lid it makes big noises. When I have stopped the turntable, even removing the lp from the platter causes lots of crackling through the speakers (I am using an MC cartridge). How do I solve this problem?
Ha, I got mine early this month. She was a welcome sight too. It rained all day here and I got soaked off and on. Driving home, all I wanted was a hot cup of coffee and some audio relaxation. But, I enjoyed the hearth and home just a little more with the latest issue as a welcome surprise.
In a previous thread I had mentioned that I was going to get one of those Oppo players to replace the dead player in our bedroom and report back as to whether or not it really sounds worth a hoot. Well, Wes beat me to the punch in the May issue.
