Last Fall, without any thought, I purchased a Numark TT200 turntable to play my long unused collection of LPs. Too bad!.. but at least I am back to a hobby I thoroughly enjoy, without wasting too much coin. Stereophile and Absolute Sound show possibilities limited only by my wallet. I decided to move slowly and learn. I refurbished my 28 year old MA 6100 integrated amp, added a Cambridge Audio Azur 640 v. 2 CD player and a pair of Monitor Audio RS6 speakers. Not bad, but a budget system to be sure.
Here are my top 5 sax lovers albums. I am not going to include Coltrane because frankly I love all his work...and I won't include any "smooth jazz". I am also only including CD's that are up to par on both performance and sonics.
1. The complete Roost Sonny Stitt Recordings- 9CD's Mosaic Records. I believe that Sonny Stitt was a better sax player than a lot of people out there. While not into exploration as Coltrane was Mr Stitt plays with a fire that is hard swing. His blues are excellent and his boxed CD set is a great way to get into one of the best sax players ever.
Some magazines seem to keep just the several brands over and over...this listing shows what a variety of STUFF is out there. http://www.audiodirectory.nl/
Ok Here is the story I bought a used Sanyo PLC-X45 Projector and wanted to go digital after many long years in the quadraphonic age. Two weeks ago I bought a McIntosh MX130 (wow a CD Input what will they think of next) and loved it. To my surprise I stumble upon a deal for an MX119 that I could not pass up. So I can
Bought a reasonably high end digital stereo power amp direct from box - manufacturers instructions spartan and no basic set up information - advertised RMS 500w per channel, I assume this to be accurate...so how to burn it in with a totally NON debatable method? I have read reviews but they all use slightly differing methods to precondition for testing only - I am looking at an amp for life...well, maybe not quite, but I plan on using it for a good while!
I checked out a pair of these today, and they sound amazing! 2 way speakers, with a single 8" woofer, and I honestly thought there was a sub hooked up!! Not to mention the awesome mid-range!
They were driven with an Audio Research tube amp, and an Esoteric transport, with A.R. DAC.
It probably would not sound quite that good with my system, but it has me curious.
Does anyone here own Spendors?
The ads on this website for the Fatman iTube have been running for a while and I was wondering if anyone has had a chance to either listen to it or purchased it? To me since the music on iTunes is compressed no matter what it just isn't going to sound great..thoughts?
