Impressive Body of Work

I check in on aggregator blog Locust Street every week and it's almost always worth the visit. The last two weeks, however, have been extraordinary. Last week's deep excavation of the "Dry Bones" meme was perfect, but this week's theme of party girls is even better. Go—but only if you have a few hours to spend.

Colony Collapse Disorder?

Colony Collapse Disorder?

Classical Values takes a sharp look at the much ballyhooed honeybee blight. "The bees that seem to be suffering from Colony Collapse Disorder are the ones that get boxed up and trucked around, and they've been kept going for decades with regular dustings of miticides. Whether this is good for bees and how long they can be expected to compete with wild insects is of course debatable."

Ever watched a movie and had to get the soundtrack?

Watched an old movie titled, Metropolitan (1990) tonight and thought the soundtrack was great. Went to Amazon and they had one used for over $60 and one new for over $119. I was like WTF? It's just a soundtrack. Turns out it some sort of cult classic that is related to the movie, Last Days of Disco (1998) with much of the same cast and characters. So, naturally I go to Ebay and find only one listed in mint condition for $30.

New Laws May Doom Second-Hand CD Sales

Is it just me going crazy or is it going to be easier to buy a gun than buy a used Cd?

It is hard for me to believe that our legislators don't have much more important things to do than worry about Pawn Shop Sales of used CDs et al! Pretty soon the Garage Sale Police will be showing up.

Can it be any wonder I am beginning to see the glass half empty and not half full anymore?

What would you suggest from here?

I love the Arcam Solo but I am also starting to think about the "next step" in amplification. I dream about Mark Levinson but I understand the company was sold and a lot of the old timers are gone. My audio consultant suggested Macintosh Audio but I am not sure as I don't know that much about their products.

I am thinking that my next integrated amplifier would not be over $5K in cost and was wondering what other people here might recommend (I have Paradigm Studio 100 speakers)

FM reception

Winegard FM only antennas

In case you are one of us who still listens to FM, Winegard still makes some excellent FM antennas. I use the PR 6000 with great success just outside Atl. A dealer may have to special order it for you, but if you do listen to FM it is well worth the effort. A couple of 10 foot masts, some 75 ohm cable, drill a few holes and Wha-La, beautiful low background noise FM.
