I would like your opinion on these speakers. I'm looking for a speaker that can fill my room with a pleasant easy listening sound, even if I'm not in directly in front of the speakers. My room is about 18'x12', actually larger, with 13' ceiling. I'm not an audiophile, but would like to nice pair of speakers that will image well and offer a nice soundstage. The room is not dedicated to listening only, so I won't have much flexibility in speaker placement.

I was speaking with Douglas Jesse from Reference Audio and he was telling me "The Oppo units fully modded are extremely hard to beat for the money" @ about $1600 for a fully modded unit.

That seems to be a lot of money considering I can buy a used Rega Saturn for about the same amount of money that Is also hard to beat. But I do have limited experience, so hear are my questions.

Does anyone have any experience with Modded units like Oppo?

Is It worth having a Oppo modded for better sound than players like Rega?

Kallman's attitude and responses only solidify the lack of vision of the music industry and why their sales continue to drop like a lead brick.

His lack of interest in multi channel audio, high quality audio CD's, and the older buyers that would love to replace their libraries with high resolution content is exactly why the industry is falling on its face.

Maybe is a tough question, sorry but it is a hard decission to make either. I happily have a pair of Watt & Puppy 8 with Electrocompaniet mono amps "nemo" and a Tag Mc laren 192 audio video as preamp. I am sure I want to buy an audio research reference 3 as my new preamp but I have serious doubts about the amps. This is between new krell 600 evo and Boulder 1050 amps. The price is similar, more expensive boulder amps but I want the best of them. I know it would be really dificult to find anyone that have listen to both but I have to try.

I was just wondering how to find a buyer for these one of a kind speakers. This pair is one of the few made before going out of business in the early 80's. William Wright was the scientist who designed the best speakers but as most sientists didn't fair well as an entrepreneur. I'd like to source a collector interesed in adding these to his collection. They are still much in demand by collectors in Japan but I'd prefer a closer buyer in North America. Does anyone have a web site for same. I'll put a link for the info on the speakers.

Ok so after not buying any audio equipment for 15+ years I have the itch to upgrade... ummm... well.... everything. I am currently running off of a Sony STR-AV770X Receiver with matching EQ and 5 Disc Changer. All components are from the early 90's. The receiver has a pretty good amplifier in it and all the components have been flawless over the years. But it is time to grow up a little.
