Inexpensive surround sound receiver with 2-channel preamp outputs?

Forums

I'd like to buy a surround sound receiver, but I don't want to have to swap speakers between the surround system and my tube amplifier for the front two channels. Therefore, I'm in the market for a surround receiver that has preamp outputs for the left and right stereo channels. Everything else can run off the receiver.

Required:
At least two SPDIF optical inputs required
Preamp outputs for front left, front right, and subwoofer required

D&M Holdings on the Block?

D&M Holdings on the Block?

D&M Holdings, Inc., the Japanese consortium that owns Denon, Snell, Boston Acoustics, McIntosh, Escient, and Marantz, is apparently on the marketing block. Rumors to that effect have been circulating since mid-March, although the company's website</A>, in a press release dated 04/15/08, coyly says only: "D&M Holdings, Inc. notes that recent press reports concerning the potential sale of D&M shares is not based on any information provided by the company."

Energy RC-10

Forums

I have been auditioning the Energy RC-10 for a few days and like what I hear so far. Highs and midrange are very good. Bass is good, perhaps just a tad under damped. I am thinking this might be a room issue rather than the speaker. Any comments or thoughts would be appreciated.

Zappa! Zappa! Zappa!

Zappa! Zappa! Zappa!

Truth is: I know diddly-squat about Frank Zappa. I've heard this and that, of course, and all I've heard has always been intriguing, but, for no good reason, I've just never taken the time to dive into Zappa's world. Perhaps it's because his world seems so enormous and wild and foreign. His world is full of barking pumpkins and utility muffins and Sprechstimme and other things I can neither imagine nor pronounce. I mean, even his name is strange. Like an exclamation, like a shot of electricity. Zappa! Say it three times, and something bad might happen. Zappa! Zappa! (No, don't!)

Ortofon

Is it just my subjective observation OR was it a measured action by NeedleDoc? So It seems there is a full full page of all ORTOFON stuff, which is not the usual NeedleDoc play. And how coincidental, there are Ortofon reviews...now....I thought.....perhaps mistakenly, but wasn't something similar to this idea of not advertising when there is a review of a product for that product, and a dealer advertising it? Wasn't this an issue previously discussed that it violates Stereophile policy?
