Sincerely Concerned

Dear Readers,<br>
I admit it. When Jerry commented to <a href="http://blog.stereophile.com/stephenmejias/041408really/">last week's entry</a>, saying that vinyl wears out with every single trip around the platter, it kind of shook me up. My heart raced and blood rushed to my head. I began to sweat. What had I done? What was I getting into? How would I afford this? Had I stepped into AlexO's bottomless pit?

HELP!

ok, so heres the deal. I have just managed to get a gemini gt-1002 speaker off a friend of mine so i got it home and realized there was no wall plug so i plugged in my mp3 player anyway and it was really quiet, then i ripped apart this other speaker and plugged it into it so now the gemini gt-1002 works and gets pretty loud but the bass even when i turn it all the way up really isn't all that great. i really love feeling the bass when i'm listening in my miniscule 10 by 10 room. so what i guess i'm really asking is how can i get that floor rattling bass in my little room affordably.

Comparing and Interpreting Specs

I'm comparing specs of NAD 315 (integrated) & Pro-Ject Pre Box and Amp Box separates. Do I care that NAD specs Input impedance (R & C) at 50k?/100pF where Pro-Ject specs input impedance at 20kohms.

NAD specs Total Harmonic Distortion at <0.02 while Pre Box specs THD at 0.001 but the companion Pro-ject Amp Box specs THD at <0.05 at 10W. Is NAD's <0.02 meaningful without a watts parameter.

Stereos for Every Room

Stereos for Every Room

Besides the reading I do here at <i>Stereophile</i>, I read a lot on the morning train. When Murakami is pissing me off with his cats and dead friends, I turn to the free dailies handed out by the dudes in the bright orange jackets standing outside the station. I pick one up and I say to myself, "I think I'll get a little stupid this morning." I go for <i>Metro</i>&#151"the world's largest global newspaper." Dressed in a cheery green and with a friendly font, it is clearly designed for those in jeans and sneakers, whereas <i>AM New York</i> is meant for the more serious suits.

Preliminary, limited review --
I haven't even taken delivery of my Continuum 500 integrated amplifier yet, but I got to listen for 3-hours this afternoon to help with the decision to put down $8,800 to take it home.

My dealer is Soundings, South of Denver, Colorado, owned and operated by Rod Tomson with the very able assistance of this very knowledgeable crew. See the Soundings site at www.soinc1021.qwestoffice.net/

I always look forward to <I>Stereophile</I>'s Home Entertainment Shows, where I scout out interesting new models of affordable loudspeakers. At <A HREF="http://blog.stereophile.com/he2007">HE2007 in New York City</A>, I was struck by the Silverline Audio room&mdash;not only by the sound I heard there, but by the way Showgoers reacted to that sound.
