Balanced Turntable Interconnects

Most tone arms have either two RCA outputs or a DIN output. Most of the TT cables that I see have either RCA plugs on both ends or DIN on the TT end and RCA on the pre-amp end. (Plus a ground, of course).

Why don't you see "Balanced" or "XLR" connections on the pre-amp end? I suppose it has something to do with cartridges being unbalanced, but I'm not certain. Does anyone know for certain why this is the case?

Need help with turntable problem

Hi everyone. I have been reading these forums for quite a while now and they were very helpful in putting together a basic analog system. I just got my new turntable (Pro-ject Debut III) four days ago. I plugged it in, adjusted the tracking force and anti-skate and started playing records. Everything sounded great. On day three, however, I put on a record and noticed a static-like "whoosh" sound corresponding to each revolution of the record. In other words the record is mostly quiet, but every time it comes around to a certain point, the noise is produced.

Ever listen to music while...

Ever listen to music while watching porn? I think it's incredible! Sometimes, when the stars align and the video actually catches the beat of the music, it's just great! There are those rare instances when the video catches the rhythm and the lyrics suit the action on the screen. Then, it becomes pure art.

I had Madeleine Peyroux singing Blue Alert in the background with porn on the screen and it was pure magic. Check this out:

Visions of her drawing near
Arise, abide, and disappear
You try to slow it down
It doesn't work

Interconnects for a turntable question

New to the whole turntable thing in fact it hasn't been delivered yet. Hopefully this week. So here I am looking for cables. I am getting a Pro-Ject Experience and will be using it with a Pro-Ject Tube Box II connected to a Synthesis Nimis integrated. My question is:

Are silver interconnects a good match with a turntable?

Replacement for LS3/5a?

Forums

I recently returned to using a 1978 pair of Rogers LS3/5a speakers. They still have a great sound - an openness and warmth that is very enticing. They really can just disappear like few other speakers I have heard. Are there any more modern speakers that capture the "style" of the Rogers? I know that Stirling and Harbeth make direct replacements, I am wondering more about speakers that might extend the bass or offer other refinements, while still capturing the style of the LS3/5a's.

Dusting is boring and makes me sneeze, so I had been putting it off. I don't know how many months and months had passed. It had been awhile. In fact, to an outside observer, it might have appeared as though I was trying to determine just how much dust I could collect on my bookcases. It was even starting to bother me. My bookcases no longer boasted their cheap cherry shine, but had taken on a soft, sickly grey. This weekend, I figured it was time.

Selling CDs after ripping

In the final article of the current(?) Stereophile, the columnist mentions that he's unwilling to follow the current common wisdom and sell his CDs after ripping them, because he likes the feeling of having them.

Disturbingly there is no mention of the legality and ethics of the situation.

I was similarly disturbed when the response to an earlier letter to the editor did not mention the ethics and legality of the practice (someone ripped and sold their CDs, and then their drive crashed - causing the letter writer substantial angst).

There Will Be Blood OST

I know that Robert Baird did not like it so much (http://blog.stereophile.com/musicroom/robertbaird/022508loud/) but I thought Jonny Greenwood's score for There Will Be Blood was impressively well done. Sure you can say that he's a Radiohead guitarist ripping off classical composers, but I thought it was all very smartly done & greatly added to the movie.

Seeking advice on an entry level system - thanks!

HI!

My wife and I are moving from a 450 sq foot condo to a real house and I am finally indulging a dream to get a real hi fi audio system. Based on reviews here and there, I've decided to center it around the RR 2150. For speakers and cds, here is where I am at right now:
