better amp or better speakers?

Forums

i have finally got the chance to get a decent stero system after moving from an apartment into my own house its been about 20 years since i had a really loud system so i bought a Pioneer VSX-82TXS reciever and a set of cerwin vega VE 15 speakers it sounds okay at moderate volumes but when i try to crank it up past 70 % it sounds like crap i am not getting the strong base i expected and the tweeters give up at anything above 70 % volume i am thinking that its the recievers problem not being able to output enough power to the speakers or have i just wasted my money on these speakers?

Output music via Ethernet cable

I am trying to figure out how to do this, I appreciate the help.

First, I am trying to use a DAC707 and output to my project head box. Foobar is my software. I hooked the 707 from a port on my router into its "ctl" port. The 707 just hums and the input light does not come on. I dont think I am missing anything on the hardware side? I think I just dont know how to setup the software end of things.

Thanks for the help

speaker isolation pads?

Hello,

I've got a pair of paradigm studio 20 v4 sitting on a desktop in a 10 x 12 office. I really can't do much about the placement, (i.e. use stands) but I wondering if I can do something to isolate the speakers from the desktop.

My thoughts are that keeping each speaker isolated and reducing transfer of any energy to the desktop (and hence the other speaker) would be a good thing.

Road Trip!

Road Trip!

Back in April, Daniel Jacques of Audio Plus, Focal's North American distributor, invited me to visit Focal's factory in St. Etienne. Since I'd never reviewed any Focal loudspeakers, I didn't know a lot about the company, but I have spent many happy hours in Jonathan Scull's ribbon chair, listening to his Grand Utopias, so I was eager to go—and to learn more.

First the Foam

First the Foam

Stiff, extremely light "aircraft" foam is stretched over a mold by hand and gently heated to maintain "dimensional stability," according to Dominic Baker, Focal's export sales director. The molds have different flares, depending on the driver's purpose—and they are produced in-house by Opus 42.

Then the Miracle Fabric

Then the Miracle Fabric

Another hand process is stretching and fitting various layers of adhesive-impregnated glass-fiber material to the front and back of the foam center. Again, depending on the driver's purpose, different amounts of glass fiber layers are employed. Since Focal controls the flare, drive system, and crossover, the company has massive amounts of control over elements like mass and Q.
