Hi
Im still in search of that last missing peice of the puzzle for my new system.
Ive now settled on
Rega 3 with DV20 High output (to be upgraded shortly )
Quad CDP2/pre 99/909 power amp
Quad 22 speakers, quad L sub
The problem im having is that I love the mids and treble of teh Quads, it really makes the music jump out for me, guitars etc just seem to sound great, the issue is that the bass is to wooly and uncontrolled, theres enough of it but its just flabby with no snap.
Hi guys,
hope you don't mind this type of question. As the title says, I'm not audiophil, but I have found out that I love good sound. This happened whened when i moved from some really cheap headphones to sennheiser px 100 (i know, that's also some very cheap low-end headphones for you guys )
Anyway, I would like to buy some speakers and i would like them to be at least a bit better than all those common logitech or creative speakers people usually buy. Unfortunately i was not able to orientate myself in all this audio stuff and that's why I wanted to ask you for help.
Now that both the Wavelength Cosecant USB DAC v3 (now with ASYNC mode) and the Benchmark USB DAC 1 and DAC 1-PRE support 24-bit audio at sample rates up to 96 kHz without the installation of any drivers or other special software. I am having a hard time choosing between them. My primary headphones are the Ultrasone UE 9 and the Grado GS 1000. Has anyone out there heard both side to side at any of the meets??? Are there specific advantages of one over the other?
Hola,
Elk made some interesting comments on the "Bataan Death Thread" about the use of the term "veil" in audio.
Made me think...ouch...about these veils.
I think I've only seen fleeting glimpses behind that last veil in this audio dance. You know, that sensation of a system pouring out the pure, naked, unveiled sound of a live instrument in a live space. There have been some unexpected moments of wondering 'live or memorex,' but they never hold up over time.
See my new guitar at:
Ken Parker Archtops "Spot"
It's out on recording assignments right now, but I'll take delivery late this year or early next year. I may go visit it, hopefully in a recording session with someone like Bill Frissell or John Hart, we'll see.
Browse the site and take a listen to these amazing guitars.

How much nonsense can be written? Read the description of this nonsense!!!! That male cord cap is one that ain't no special cord cap, matter o fact I have several laying in my used pile of stuff, $5? Now that's audiophile grade.... So a tigher jacket means tighter sound.....that is pretty friggin impressive "research". Wonder what div of the marketing dept did that "research"? Do you think for $100 piece of wire it might have a UL listing, since even $10 cords do from mfgs that make that kind of stuff for non audiophiles. Does the FTC ever look into these claims?
I'm so old that when Alice Cooper's "School's Out" was released, I was actually in school!
Went to my niece's grad party tonight and some of the kids were playing this song.
I had a moment of cognitive disonance, for sure.
Many of the kids were wearing faux Zep concert tees.
Lots of long hair.
The only thing that was missing was vinyl. (I hope DUP can overlook this historical reference.)
The kids knew all the Stones, Zep, Alice Cooper, Deep Purple, Black Sabbath classics.
Greetings all. Great site and forum, glad to have found it.
A little background-
I'm kind of a newbie. In the 70's & 80's I became interested in Hi Fi. I first built my own enclosures, bought designs, drivers and x-overs from a catalogue, no internet in that era. Then moved up? to a pair of 901's and experimented with subs and equalizers and out of phase rears, all driven by Realistic, Panasonic, and Marantz gear.
