After a year spent exploring the best that can be obtained from minimonitor loudspeakers, I embarked on what will be an equally long examination of what floorstanding towers have to offer. I began with the Sonus Faber Cremona Elipsa ($20,800/pair) in December 2007, followed in 2008 by: in February, the KEF Reference 207/2 ($20,000/pair); in April, the PSB Synchrony One ($4500/pair); and in May, the Magico V3 ($25,000/pair). For this review, I've been listening to a speaker aimed at those with shallower pockets than are required even for the PSB: the Avalon NP Evolution 2.0, which costs just $1995/pair.

In the waning days of 2007, I delivered some small audio doohickey to John Atkinson one weekend afternoon. "Come down to the listening room," he said. "I want you to hear something."

Anyone familiar with Tonian labs speakers or the French PHY drivers?

Forums

Bon jour,

I was searching around for maybe a DIY project and found PHY full range drivers in the Madisound catalogue.

I'm thinking even Mr. Ten Left Thumbs buddha could cut a hole in a board and make their "infinite baffle" speaker project, but the price of the drivers is so dear, and the array of choices mysterious, that I thought I'd ask before I leap.

Anybody here hear these babies?

Also, those drivers are used in the Tonian Labs speakers, in association with ribbon tweeters that are also quite pricey.

what do you think of this starter system

Jolida JD 1501A hybrid,$650..,Jolida tube CD player,about 900$

Hansen Princes

So a little while back, I'd posted something about Hansen Audio Prince speakers. My post was mainly skeptical, about how the Princes could be rated Class A by Stereophile, when JA's measurements seemed to voice certain reservations, especially about the crossover. Well, anyway, I got an email from Wes Bender, who's the US Sales Director for Hansen Audio. He'd read my email & issued a Pepsi Challenge. So how could I refuse?
