It's not that we are stupid and I suppose in every hobby there are people selling "snake oil" but sometimes the "snake oil scams" for audiophiles are so in-your-face that it can certainly help to the wrong perception that all audiophiles are fools. I periodically receive the ACOUSTIC SOUNDS catalog and yesterday while I was reading it, I got shocked at this GUTWIRE power cord (5ft at $99) that they were advertising. This is what they say: "Did you know that the tightness of the jacket materials could change the sound. Gutwire jacket materials are designed to be loose.
Hello All,
1. I am a fresher on the subject. Managed to save enough to buy a decent System. I have zeroed on Rotel RB 1080 power Amp, RC 1070 Pre Amp (I am getting a huge discount on these pre & pwr Amps). I am thinking of Monitor Audio Gold GS 60 Speakers with Arcam FMJ CD 17 cd player. I am also thinking of a Project Debut 3 with phono stage turntable to listen to my Vinyls.
2. Can somebody advise me on the combination and the cables that I should go for the above combination. Any suggestion would be of immence value to me.
But I wish he'd give that amp more ventilation.

i wasn't sure whether this should go in Amplification, or Loudspeakers, but since i'm not changing my amp...
my system is an Aleph 5, with a Mark Levinson No. 28 preamp.
i've been wanting to upgrade my speakers [from thiel cs 0.5].
is anyone running B&W 801 or 802 [matrix] with an Aleph 5?
i've always loved the sound of these speakers, but with other amplification, and i wondered if the Aleph has enough grunt to run them.
thanks!
Bluey
Hi
I was wondering if Martin Logan speaker is in similar league with B&W and Paradigm
or it is one of those I should avoid. (Martin Logan Source in particular)
Also, the dealer told me that Marantz PM7001 has been discontinued
and showed me Marantz PM8003 and Arcam A-18
is there particular reason PM 7001 was suggested?
what is you guys opinion on PM8003 and A-18?
Thanks!!
Hi, I thought I'd post this here as there are more people looking here. I'm looking to buy some speakers for my MP3 player. Idealy they would be portable as it would be used buring BBQs and parties in the garden. Any suggestions as to which speakers would be best. I've been looking at harman/kardon go and play, what do you think?
Aloha,
A recent LP based discussion reminded me of some of the LP facts/myth discussions in the hobby, so I thought I'd ask about some:
Fact, or fiction?
1) Some people claim that there is terrifically high heat generated at the contact point between a stylus and the LP's vinyl groove. This heat can actually deform the LP groove, and the LP then requires 24 hours to 'recover,' and should not be played again in that amount of time.
