I'm hoping the NY Times article mentioned recently here indicates a trend for women to become serious audiophiles in increasing numbers. I'm not holding my breath however. For as long as I can remember this has been a male, almost exclusively hetro game, especially on forums and newsgroups.
Which reminds me - I know Stephen M is supposed to be straight but when I laid eyes on his expression in the attached shot I found myself wondering if that grin is one of lust, envy or simple admiration for the technology.

Quick question for all in the know: I am running a pair of Wharfedale 9.1 speakers powered by (usually) an NAD315BEE (40W/channel), and at the moment, an NAD355BEE (80w/channel) on a trial basis. I am noticing that regardless of which amp I use, I am getting quite a large amount of speaker travel (5 inch cone; I would estimate I'm getting 3/8'' of travel). Is this normal, or am I beating the living daylights out of the speakers and should I stop? I am not sure what to make of the whole situation. Thanks in advance!

About 6 weeks ago I found out about the Groovetracer subplatter for Rega turntables. As the manufacturer was local, I drove down and met the developer of the Groovetracer, Frank Smillie. Frank owns and runs a professional CNC-based machine shop and his "day job" business is focussed on providing extremely-high quality machining, design, and CNC-milling to the aerospace and IT industries.

But he is also a serious vinyl-lover (his handle on AK is VinylAddict) and a big fan of the Rega turntables, and with his expert skills, developed the Groovetracer sub-platter.

(The purpose of this post is to open discussion on equipment that "punches" way above it's price class. To be eligible it has to be in current production or being able to buy new.)

Im new here. I just bought a VPI Superscoutmaster turntable with the JMW-9 arm. I have a Denon 103R cartridge that want to install, and looks like is not an easy task because I have read that I need to add a head shell weight. Honestly I dont know much about how to do this, so if someone could share his experiences I will appreciate it.

Hello all! I recently became interested in vinyl(big jazz fan) and wanted to pursue it so I dug out some old equipment of my dads from storage. I was hoping that I could get some input of the quality of these components

Since this winter started there is static electricity discharge from my stereo amplifier when I touch it. Does anybody of you have this problem and what can I do about it. Thanks in advance for the help.
