Record roulette...

Just bought 500 LP's from a guy in a small town nearby who got them in an abandoned storage unit sale.

The guy said rock and classical predominate and that the jackets are all in good condition and the records look 'clean.'

Gonna go pick 'em up. I'll post the price later.

How much would you pay, sight unseen?

I had to promise to buy them, no audition or cherry picking...

Back at 9pm.

Music, After All

Music, After All

Audio shows are tough. As a member of the press and, more specifically, as a representative of Stereophile magazine, I feel an extreme amount of pressure to do as thorough a job as physically and mentally possible. (I should emphasize that I put this pressure on myself.) It would be outstanding if a single person could cover an entire show, spending quality time with manufacturers, dealers, and readers, while also actually having the opportunity to listen to the gear being presented. But no audio show is ideal&#151not even this year's Rocky Mountain Audio Fest, which was, by all accounts gleaned so far, a great, great success.

Yamaha S1000 series

Forums

I read a brief overview of the A-S1000 int amp and CD-S1000 cdp, at Whafhifi. After doing a quick web search it seems there are no USA dealers, for this product.

An interesting '70's look, minus all the buttons & knobs.
Is anyone familiar with the model?

Looks good on paper. The disc player is a SACD/CD combo...I'm not sure about the pros.cons of such a device.

Any thoughts? Thanks.

RMAF 2008 Show Report

Forums

Hello all. With our RMAF coverage now complete, I have now gone through all the blog comments, and responded where I felt it appropriate to do so.
Scattered about are some insights into how I approach blogging at a show, where there are so many variables at play.

I'm hoping that the man who posted one of the comments on my mbl blog entry has the opportunity to go back and read my replies. If you know him, please encourage him to check them out.

Frivolity: Pimp My Room, or maybe a "Trading Spaces" kind of project.

Aloha,

I wonder if there's room on TV for an audiphile show like "Pimp My Room," where an audiophile has a team of 'experts' descend on his room and system and pimp it.

Or, how about an audiophile version of "Trading Spaces," where two audiophiles trade listening rooms for the weekend and try to make each others' rooms sound better...asthetics included!

Which leads to my theme for this post:

I am exiled to the hometown of HCM Audio for half of each week, and all I have here is a rental with my cast off gear.

A Willie album that keeps growing on me...

Hola,

Tempus Fugit.

Sitting here listening to a disc I can't get enough of this week.

Willie Nelson's "Across the Bordeline."

I consider it a 'new' Willie disc, but, dang, it's from 1993!

You should go buy this disc.

It has a vesrion of "American Tune" that I like better than the original.

Good duet with Bonnie Raitt on another cut. Great version of Peter Gabriel's "Don't Give Up," too.

The sonics are really clean, and Willie does most of the disc with minimal accompaniment.
