Reading Art's notes on mono in the December issue got me to thinking; how would you go about building a decent, dedicated mono system in 2008?
Obviously you can still buy mono phono cartridges, but what would you do next?
The main purpose of such a system would obviously be to play mono lps...

Yo guys
I have been away because my work and my degree have been keeping me very busy - now I am back to stir the ingredients of science back into my hobby.
How is everyone ?
I hope you are all well and life is good
I did finally manage to get my workshop built and now that I have done that - I can now move on to build the amplifiers the rest of the world havent yet been able to create.
Obviously as the title says i'm curious of the Oppo DVD player. The DV-970HD had a great review may of last year from Wes Phillips. However they have moved on now to the dv-980h and they also have the dv-981hd and dv-983h. Now i have been hard pressed to find any reviews on the audio aspects of these new models, obviously seeing as it is a dvd player. However i didn't know if anyone knew anything about these newer models. I can get the 970 for like $90 used. however if it is worth it to go for the new 980 or one of the other models i would love to know as they are all moderately priced.
Having always been a late adopter of new technologies ( took me 10 years from CD's introduction to take the plunge & even then I hated what I heard) I've gotten myself in a puzzling situation. I'm over the moon with my Meridian 808.2 CD player but having just been exposed to SACD/DVD-A etc on a friends system I now want to start putting my foot into the higher bit-rate ocean.
Hi all,
Over the post turkey dinner table my nieces, nephews and I got on the subject of music and music reproduction. To cut to the chase they agreed that it would be better to buy CD/LP's and encode them into lossless playback in the computer/iPod. But they are 20 somethings and want to use their music budget to buy only the songs that they want and not whole albums.
An encouraging blog post about the new Mudcrutch live ep. Sounds like some artists and engineers are starting to care. The engineer also offers some logic behind the loudness tendency today.
The last post in the Loudspeakers category of the Hardware Forum was a week ago. What's up with that? This is a forum for people who are interested in music and hi-fi, isn't it? STEREOPHILE is the leading American magazine on those subjects...isn't it?
My diagnosis: Too many forum categories! There may be 10,000 registered users, but the traffic day to day seems extremely light. I think we are just spread out too thin, and that a stream-lined, condensed forum might be just the ticket to liven things up. Probably 5-10 categories, top, would be quite sufficient.
