I have recently purchased a Musical Fidelity KW DM25 transporter and dac. http://www.musicalfidelity.com/products/archived/kwdac.html
One of the reasons for choosing this model, was that it offered a switchable facility for the dac - you can switch between the transport and a spare spdif connection.
I am now keen to use computer based audio as well as CDs.
My question is: What is currently thought to provide the best sound quality given my set up?
Other than your ears, do you indulge in other sensations?
We're all about the ears here, but I was wondering if there are any 'sharpeners' of other sense experiences.
I don't bother with video, but enjoy watching with an aficionado. To me, they are movies and 'film' is OK, but not a passion.
Partial foodie, but I prefer to cook rather than frequent restaurants.
Love wine and wine tasting. Fun scent and taste experiences.
Avid reader, but I look at books like I do fresh water fish...read and release, so no leather or vellum accumulation at my casa; but I love leafing through people's book collections.

Frustrated by its low fidelity, my iPod had been collecting dust ever since I purchased it two years ago. Then in December, as I was leafing through my new Rolling Stone, I came across something that I thought would help me salvage my iPod. Rolling Stone was recommending a speaker and iPod dock combo for the "true audiophile" on your Christmas list: a set of Audioengine 5 speakers and the Wadia 170iTransport dock. The key was the Wadia 170 which,

Agree or Disagree:
Between the print (Stereophile, TAS, HiFi+, etc.) and the Internet publications (TONEAudio, GoodSound, Enjoy The Music, Affordable$$Audio, SonicFlare, etc.), it seems to me that we have an abundance of quality reading material for our hobby.
Add to that all the forums and things look pretty good right now. The next step is recruit the next generation, by dumping mp3's and dynamic compression. Then we will have provided the growth for future generations of audio hobbyists.

The March 2009 issues of both Stereophile and The Absolute Sound bring us an article about digitizing vinyl, i.e. converting one's analog LPs in digital files or even CDs. So how well does magazine present the subject and how do they compare...LET'S GET READY TO RUMBLE!!!!

Any help is welcome: I live in a small NH town with no home audio stores less than an hour's drive. Visited a couple with sketch and pics of my semi-open floorplan. One guy (seemed very knowledgeable, in biz 20+ years) said Mirage sub-sat. He had nothing else to recommend. They sounded good but far from a thrill. Another guy (also seemed very smart, wasn't on commission, didn't rush at all) showed me 4 different floorstanding pairs. I decided on Thiel CS1.6 with Camb. Audio CD player and Rotel int. amp. He recommended I sleep on it.
First I did not mean to "hijack" the thread. I really enjoy reading my monthly issue of Stereophile but a review of speakers costing $100,000 is relevant to who?
Like I stated before the high end audio market will be flat or decrease because of the reasons stated but in addition to that todays artists are "products" and not musicians. Does it matter if you listen to Madonna and Spears on an iPod or good system? Are you really going to hear things you never heard before?
