Hi, I recently went to a speaker store and had a length discussion with the manager on building a setup. I listened to several small monitor size speakers and these sounded the best to me. http://www.madisound.com/catalog/product_info.php?products_id=1688
They are 281 each but I would have to build them. I have no experience soldering or anything like that. The store can build them for me for 350 each. What should I do?
Posted by Gordon's good friend Bob O'Neill on the Audio Asylum:
"A few minutes after 12 noon mtn time, July 20, 2009, J. Gordon Holt passed away in his home in Boulder, Colorado.
A memorial service will be held in a week or two. There will be, of course, martinis and the music of Ralph Vaughn Williams." - Bob O'Neill
Hey everyone. i have been frequently reading reviews of hifi equipment and very recently decided to take the plunge as i am a huge music and movie fan. To cut the story short, i am looking to upgrade my home theater setup where i already have a new tv and dvd player denon 1740. I currently have the logitech z5500 home theater system which is supposed to be the best in its class and is thx certified. I am looking to replace this with an av receiver and stereo speakers to start with, with the sub and surrounds / center to be added later. My confusion lies here:
And now we know why the AMA supports the program:
....Democrats seem to have procured the AMA's bouquet with what the AMA letter says is the promise of "fundamental Medicare reforms, including repeal of the sustainable growth rate," or SGR. The SGR is a formula that Congress created in 1997 as a form of fiscal triage, mandating automatic cuts in physician payments if entitlement spending rises too steeply. Next year, they're scheduled to drop by 21.5%.
Just d/l the new "PRO" v2.0 of the XTZ Room Analyzer software (www.xtz.se). At first glance, I see they've added some nice new features, including more "save measurement" options, and a new waterfall plot. The updated instruction manual also mentions that the mic is directional for higher frequencies, and indeed, yields more reproducible results when pointed towards the speakers (vs. upright). Hopefully Kal will report on the updated software in a future column. Anybody else here using it for tuning their setup?

This is entertaining. The new government found the results of the referendum the ex-President demanded letting him violate the Constitution and remain in office. It seems he had election results already recorded and certified on his computers...before the election had even been held.
Like Iran or Franken in Minnesota.
Robert Levine has a rave review of the new Jenny Lin CD in the August Stereophile (p. 94). I went to Amazon.com to order it. Turns out, this CD isn't released yet; should be sometime in August. Also, price of the CD is $35.98! WOW! It is a 2-CD set but that price is a bit much, IMO.
