When I was a kid, we'd go down to half Moon Bay below San Francisco and ride the offshore waves - not standing up, and I thought they were immense at one third or one half the size.

Tonight I came home to discover that a small bookshelf that my wife had put up behind the computer had collapsed from the weight of the approximately 600 CDs that were on top of it. So far, looks like the CDs are ok.

I call my long-suffering wife at work and tell her the news. Remind her that tomorrow I'm going to briefly be in NYC. Talk her into letting me buy a big-ass RAID 1 drive so I can banish the CDs into the basement....

Is a WIN SEC-10 turntable worth $1,000 bucks. I was thinking of buying a retro B&O but came across the aforementioned.

Starting my modest audiophile life! I just purchased some Martin Logan Aerius fronts. Will be pairing with some components I already have. Sony DA5 ES, Sony S9000 ES player, Klipsch center,sub and rears, all run through monster HTC 3500 protector. I have some older MIT term 5's that I want to here the sweet high's from the ml's through. In my very limited knowledge I no I need a pre amp but figured the DA5 ES would suffice for the time being....am I totaly blowing it?

Years ago I came here asking questions on how to begin my journey into vinyl. At that time, I was stuck with a linear table and interest in the Music Hall 5 series.

OK, this is my first post. I've been hanging around STereophile.com forever, and I've been a newbie stereophile since I heard my college roomate's father's system.

I'm only 27 and wanting to put together my first system. I plan on building it "piecemeal" so that I can truely learn about each component and the way it affects (effects, affects, whatevers) my overall system.

I have a pair of B&W Silver Signatures. The tweeter domes were pushed in, so I had them replaced. However, when I picked them up I was told there was no indication of polarity on the diaphragms from B&W, so I would need to up figure out the tweeter polarity.

I figured, no problem, I'll hook them up with some jumpers and figure out what sounded correct. Unfortunately, different source material sound differently, and I can't tell what is correct (in comparison to the woofers). Some material sounds correct, and some material I need to swap to get is to sound correct.
