CES 2010 Sneak Preview

The "high-performance" sector of the 2010 Consumer Electronics Show, to be held January 7&#150;10 at the Venetian Hotel, in economically downturned Las Vegas, promises an exciting array of new products for home and office. While the CES proper is open only to dealers, press, and the relatively few non-industry audiophiles who can wriggle their way in, <I>Stereophile</I>'s intrepid bloggers promise to tell you just about everything worth talking about, via frequently updated show reports on our website.

Seeing Red

Although inclined to mood swings bordering on the manic-depressive, I am generally a very patient, tolerant person, willing to accept and overlook the foibles of those less perfect than myself. But even my incredible equanimity has its limits, beyond which the milk of my human kindness curdles, becoming as lumpy as last month's yogurt.

Now that <I>Stereophile</I>'s reporting on the 1985 Summer Consumer Electronics Show has ended (I hope!), I would like to express strong dissent with its style and content. In fact, I believe that most of it should never have appeared in print.

You were not here first. You were never first.

You may even be the 8th or 10th version. Who knows.

Small wonder that people don't like this bit that is about to trash your worldview. It sure throws the bible, the Koran, etc in the pooper (whoops!), among other things. If you then look at those books as something else, ie a tale told by primitive man when faced with 'forces we don't understand' ....then it makes more sense.

What I can't wait for is all the stories that people will make up in their minds --- in order to not deal with this.

One of my pet peeves about reviews/reviewers is inconsistency. For example, take Technical Descriptions, the part of a typical Stereophile review that usually comes before the "Subjective Sound Quality" section. Lack of details in Technical Descriptions really hurts the review and may prevent me from taking that reviewer seriously.
