JA states in this month's editorial that reproduced music and live sound are two different things. Hardly anyone would disagree with that. What shocked me was how *close* playback came to a live demo that JA and others heard recently.
Where this demo came up short, however, was in the loudspeaker. Don't conventional designs smear transients ? Aren't they high in distortion...and noise ? I would think a cutting-edge horn (like the big Magicos) would bring out those missing transients a little more....
Has anyone considered a player like this specifially for Redbook audio and 2-channel SACDs?
HHB UDP-89 Universal DVD/CD Player $ 979.00 USD

B&H, Sweetwater both have it.
Well, I'm due to replace my vintage system which now gets all the critical listening. I'm going to sell off parts of it to fund a new system. I've settled on a few pieces to continue to explore and would like your help in determining any pitfalls to avoid and new directions that might be apparent. The room is 11.5' by 15.75' and has room treatments consisting of bass traps in the corners, and absorption panels at the first reflection points, behind the listening position and on the wall behind the loudspeakers.
How come these people haven't got food and water yet? Decent medical care? This sounds like Katrina only much worse. I hope you losers that blamed all that on the last president feel like shit this go around. Along with all the other bullshit you idiots were wrong about. Pft!
Oh, and BTW, don't think people are not noticing a guy says goodbye to his girlfriend and shuts down thousands of people for hours at Newark and some other loser walks through the wrong door at JFK and the whole mess starts all over again. Yeah, this hope and change shit is working splendid.

Many of you know that I've owned the MPS-5 since the spring of 2008. I was surprised to see it in Stereophile, because I didn't think that there were enough dealers to qualify for Stereophile's arbitrary standard. I posted my own little review in the forums at the time.
Anyway, MF's experience coincided pretty much with mine, particularly the improvement over time. It's absolutely stunning with SACDs and high rez PCM. In my experience, it makes RBCDs sound as good as they can, given their limitations.
You guys are going to love this....Lexicon took a $500 Oppo BD-83, and quite literally stuffed the entire chassis into a Lexicon skin and front plate and is selling it for $3500.00
There's an in-depth review of it here on Audioholics:
I was at the Midwest record collectors fair today.
Ive been attending regularly for around 2 years, with each show it gets busier. Todays show was easily the most popular ive seen, the sellers were spilling into the hallways and all the tables were straining under the weight of full boxes of albums. Every person attending also seemed to be buying.
This is not a small show, they have 60+ exhibitors and easily 200+ people walking around when i was there.
