Preamp update

So I decided to try cheap first - I ordered a Behringer compact preamp for only $30. It sounds ridiculously cheap, but I can return it if I'm not happy. Pro-jects and NADs are about $130 here in Toronto. I've read mixed reviews of the Behringers. I figured I'll spend the $30 just to try it and if I'm not happy I'll get the NAD. Worst case is I'm out $30.

I may come back here when I get the preamp and try to set up my Technics TT. Any general advice about the TT setup?

Thanks again, everyone.

I'm kind of hoping that the high end HiFi bug DOESN'T bite.

New Power Cables

Hi All, I have received, assembled and installed my new Furutech Power cables I am using the existing old double wall outlet while I wait for a new unswitched outlet to arrive from New Zealand (none available in OZ)
Sat down to listen, wondering if I'd blown my cash on a tweak that would do nothing or be such a small improvement that would be hard to detect.......

Janelle Monae’s “Tightrope”

Janelle Monae’s “Tightrope”

The word <a href="http://forum.stereophile.com/forum/showflat.php?Cat=0&Number=88273&an=0… our forum</a> is that 90 percent of today’s popular music is crap. Need a little proof that real talent still exists in the world of pop music? Check out Janelle Monae’s performance on last night’s Letterman show.

Rene Hell: Porcelain Opera

Rene Hell: Porcelain Opera

This sexy album cover, making glorious the embrace of sanctity and lust, belongs to Rene Hell’s <i>Porcelain Opera</i>. Rene Hell is the latest guise of noise artist Jeff Witscher, whose overwhelming mass of work, under names including Impregnable, Deep Jew, and Marble Sky, has been documented mostly to <a href="http://blog.stereophile.com/stephenmejias/why_cassettes/">cassette</a&gt;, while utilizing high-quality production. The curious might take a chance on his latest <a href="http://www.raccoo-oo-oon.org/np/">Night People</a> release.

Bose 301

Hi all, first post here. I've been looking for a set of speakers to warm up a kitchen/dining room that is about 12x25'. I was thinking something along the lines of a set of Bose 301's, but after looking online I see that they've fallen out of favor. I just liked the price point and the sound quality so far as I can remember the set we had when I was a kid. What else is out there in the marketplace along those lines and at/around/less-than that price point? Of course I want the best possible quality for the price.

Centrod Tonearm vs TriPlanar

Great article on the spiral groove table !!

I own a Triplanar and Lyra skala, using a Grand Prix Monaco table. So your article really hit home for me. I am extremely curious on more info on the Centroid arm, I know these are new, but given your final comment "it's not leaving my home" I take it that it's a killer arm.

When do you plan your formal review and/or can you post more comments here or send me a private note?

Thanks in advance
