Aligning my speakers

After having upgraded with a new power cable on my CDP and sub, I tried measuring the exact distance from the CDP (in the center of my soundstage) to the left and right speaker respectively. They didn't stand in the exact same distance, and I had wondered why my soundstage was a little skewed. Only an inch too much distance with the left speaker did all the difference! When I moved the speaker so they were both in the exact same distance (to a fraction of an centimeter) the soundstage came just right.

Where can I get tubes and tube equipment in NY and Washington

Hi,

I live in Bogota, Colombia, and will be visiting Washington and New York in July. I would like get information of where can I buy tubes and vintage tube radios / preamps / amps. I would also like suggestions for good hi-fi audio stores in both locations.

Some [Expletive] Cassette Shelves

Some [Expletive] Cassette Shelves

I took her advice and went for a walk, but didn’t get more than half a block from the office before spotting two large, green dumpsters filled to their brims with paperwork, notebooks, and other office supplies. As I approached, something else caught my eye. Atop the pile of stuff were two fully-stocked, wooden cassette shelves in very good condition.

Someone explain please

On this drawing the cables are represented in grey lines, getting thinner and thinner all the time. Except the red cable from the power outlet in your listening room being thicker than the preceding cable.

How can this possibly have a positive effect on the sound? In my system it definitely does, and I wonder why.

Does (the red piece of) cable act as a capacitor? Anybody have a guess?

Spiral Groove Centroid tonearm BD's System

Spiral Groove Centroid tonearm BD's System

Spiral Groove's new Centroid tonearm ($6000) arrived just a few days before press time, so it would be risky to say anything definitive about it. But I will take that risk: using the system described in my review of the SG2 turntable, this may be the best tonearm I've heard. Its sound is different in ways that will open people's ears, and I predict that it will affect the design of every tonearm from now on. The Centroid's design deserves and will await full coverage in its own review, but here are the basics: It's a fluid-damped unipivot design unlike any other that gives the user fine adjustment of all relevant parameters.
