Review Questions

Forums

I guess this question is directed more towards John Atkinson and his stuff. In light of the good review the Paradigm S2's recently got from Stereophile, are there any plans to review the Signature S8's? These have recieved even more praise and accolades from reviewers all over, it would be nice to read Mr. Atkinson's take on them, any way that can happen?

Where did you come from?

IE- what other forums do you read or contribute to?

I used to like the topica linn forum - but the endless drivel about unidisks/kistos is very boring.

Why is blind testing not such a hot button with:

- Drug testing in the pharmaceutical field?

- Wine testing?

- Perfume testing?

- Food testing?

Where lies the difference(s) between these (and many other) areas where blind testing is common and non-controversial and the audio field?

Benchmark DAC-1 and Musical Fideltiy X-DACv3 comparisons?

Greetings!

So my first post is under-way...

I've been doing quite a lot of research and my selection for a stand-alone DAC has come down to just the above two DACs. I already have a MF X-10v3 tube output buffer stage and quite like the sound of it. Just want to improve the sound upstream. I'm currently using a Benhringer DEQ2496 as a DAC.

Anyone had experience with both DACs? Which has a more musical mid-range, nicer mid-bass, airy-highs (not a high priority) and stronger dynamics? I've read a lot of reviews but any fresh comments would help a lot. Thanks!

Philips turntable

I recently upgraded my very out-of-date Philips Electronic 312 with a Pro-ject 1.2 I purchased on E-bay. My question is; Is this Philips worth anything or should I just through in the trash? The dust cover is all cracked up and the back panel is missing, but it plays fine.

Thank you for your advice.
