Are there any standouts or good buys among the various lower-end Magnepan speakers over the years? My brother had a pair of MG1s that seemed rather opressively dark and warm, are any of the newer or smaller models that may have a slightly more lively presentation?
I'm kind of a hifi burnout former audiophile type, just looking for something acceptably pleasing without too much fiddling and fussing. I've drifted out of touch with the current audio scene, and live in an area where the high end is not well represented at the retail level.
I just purchased a Quiex II promo copy of Dire Straits "Brothers In Arms." I thought all Quiex II lps were suppose to be translucent because of the virgin vinyl they use, this one isn't. I have a Quiex II copy of Neil Young's "Everybody's Rockn" and it is translucent.
Does anybody know what the story is with Quiex II records?
Thanks
I bought this CD (My copy is Columbia COL 064935 9) after reading about it in John Mark's article P3 July issue.
I'm new to jazz and eagerly trying out recommendations. I think this is VERY promising but my CD has a weird 'static' sound in the background on Kind of Green, but definately loud enough to spoil the whole thing. Has anyone else experienced this? I've tried SACD player (Ayre 5XE) and CD (Pierre Lurne Talisman)
