Denon/Audysey

I've read a few reviews but so far everyone is using a perfect or near perfect room.It would be quite interesting if someone with a less-than-perfect room did a review out of curiosity just to see how good the audysey correction system is and how far would it go correcting room acoustics.

Masada and Cecil Tayor Concert

Forums

I was just wondering if any NYC area based forum members happened to go the Masada and Cecil Taylor concerts last Friday and Saturday nights at Jazz at Lincoln Center's Rose Hall. If you do live in the NYC area and enjoy jazz's freer side then you sure missed one heck of a fabulous concert.

Jazz at Lincoln Center's Rose Hall is a relatively new concert hall with a 1200 seat capacity, great sight lines and excellent acoustics. I attended Friday night's show and the hall seemed to be almost full, which is a good sign for jazz and a really great sign for free jazz.

Should Hi Fi sound "better" in Europe?

Hola,

I saw a post somewhere that said that with higher voltage electrical supply, cabling can be smaller and has less effect on sound.

As an electro-luddite, I wonder if that's true?

Then, I was thinking 220 volts at 50 cycles may have an easier time powering power supplies, etc...

So, would gear designed to run on that higher voltage have an advantage in its native environment over our 110 volt set-ups running on our electricity?

Maybe I should I be buying Euro-gear and running the power from my washing machine circuit?

CD player updgrade

Hi,
I have a Micromega Stage 1 CD player which I am using as a transport for a Channel Island Audio VDA-1, along with a Rega Mira amp. I am looking to change out the CD and I don't know whether to go for a modern CD player like the Rotel RCD-1072, or use something older that might match up better, like the old Rega Planet, and keep using the VDA-1.

Is a modern CD player like the Rotel so much better than my 10 year old Micromega coupled with a modern DAC? Any thoughts would be most welcome.

Thanks

Toxoplasma gondii

Try to wrap your mind around the stats involving Toxoplasma gondii. The parasite makes rats seek cats, but is it also altering the cultures of entire nations? Skewing the sex ratios of affected populations? Doubling the chances of traffic accidents?
