I'm confused. Wes Phillips review of the Oppo970 HD said that he was able to get a 96kHz output from the coaxial digital out of the player for SACD and DVD-A play back. Oppo's website stresses that there is NO digital out from the coaxial or optical outputs when these formats are playing because of copy protection ptotocols. So What's up? How does he do this? Did he get a special unit with the copy protection dissabled. Could any one clear this up for me? I would love to feed my DAC a 96kHz SACD signal.

John,
A curiosity question.
I received my copy a day or so ago and seriously listened to it last night. The sound is spectacular and the performances intriguing. I am very pleased a bought it. You did a wonderful job!
Given that you recorded most of the instruments in a "classical way", including using Metric Halo gear, I was surprised that you used DI for the bass. The bass sound is great and it lays well in the mix so I am not in any way criticizing - but why not record the bass amp as you did the guitar?

How Stereo Review Skewed the Conclusions to Larry Greenhill's Blind Cable Test
I'm very happy to discover Larry Archibald's 1983 response to Stereo Review's Blind Cable Test has been added to the archives. I read the original piece in Stereo Review 24 years ago, and did not trust it. Something didn't make sense. I was hardly an audiophile - I owned used Advent speakers, a Pioneer receiver, and an old Dual turntable/Grado cartridge at the time - but I sensed that something was awry. So I decided to experiment on my own. I went to an electronics store and bought some 12-gauge silver wire to replace the lamp cord I was using as speaker wire.
I've posted this on other forums and, while I have gotten some interesting responses, I have not gotten the information I hope to get from asking my questions. If you've read this elsewhere before, I apologize for the duplication.
