The Top 86 Travel Books

The Top 86 Travel Books

At least according to <I>Cond&#233; Nast Traveler</I>'s 45-judge panel, that is. It's a great list, including some usual suspects (Twain, Newby, Markham, Bowles, and Chatwin), as well as some enticing reads I have yet to assay (Peter Fleming, Rosemary Mahoney, and lija Trojanow, are on the "right now" list). There's altogether too much Theroux for my taste&mdash;my idea of hell would be traveling anywhere with that misanthropic hair-shirt of a man.

The Economic Theory of AC/DC

The Economic Theory of AC/DC

"The question as to who was a better singer, Bon Scott or Brian Johnson, may never truly be resolved. However, our analysis suggests that in terms of affecting efficient decision making among listeners, Brian Johnson was a better singer. Our analysis has direct implications for policy and organizational design: when policy makers or employers are engaging in negotiations (or setting up environments in which other parties will negotiate) and are interested in playing the music of AC/DC, they should
choose from the band’s Brian Johnson era discography."

Truth about Nordost Valhalla power cord

Forums

I have owned Valhalla power cord for 2 and half years now. I have cut and sliced everything to pieces and now I know the truth. I have written many megabytes of logs so I will try to sum up everything into a short text.

Noise + Valhalla = Real life

I have found that Valhalla uses AC noise in order to give fake transparency to the sound. It doesn't function without the noise, the noise must be there! It works best when plugged into the wall without any shielding or power conditioning.

a question about stereo imaging (the voice)

Hi.I'm in the painful quest (for me at least) of getting a good imaging in my stereo system. (Basically a NAD pre, Golden Theater amp and Triangle Antal ESW speakers). The thing is that I have experienced how wonderful, glorious and revealing music can be when you have your speakers well placed. I need a reference: does the voice (in most of the songs and styles from pop to rock from jazz to easy listening) always should come from the center? I am talking in a two speakers stereo system.
