Hello!
Following your good advice I'm heading towards a Rega Planet CD player.
My wife today let me notice that we have "too many elettrical things in our living room"...
I'm buying a CD player because I'm looking for good music (no compromise on that!).
But just as double check I would like to know if a combined CD/DVD player can work just as fine as a CD-only player (possibily within a reasonable price range!).
Thank you for your feedback!
I was in a music store recently and looked at elec guitars.
For under $900, you can get such a gorgeous instrument, by a top name (e.g., Gibson), that is a masterpiece of function and form. The work and materials that go into it must, relatively, dwarf the labor and parts cost of some audio stuff. There is top notch wood, and woodworking; top notch hardware; electronics; ergonomics; designed with strength to endure everything from string tension and whammy bar stresses to rough physical handling, etc.
The hard part of having a large computerized library is software. Dedicated high end solutions have proprietary software. PC have lots of media player software but they drive output from the PC. Slim is open, but media player software does not allow you to direct to a Slim device for output. The Klimax DS would be just perfect for me (I also own plenty of HiRes downloads) if it enabled me to uncouple the software player interface (PC) from the data (NAS) and the DAC (KDS). Linn says they support PnP AV 2 standards, but what media player software supports that?
