Well, I cannot say that I saw everything at the 2008 CEDIA Expo, nor can I say that my dreams came true. However, my major expectation for this show was to see that the major high-end manufacturers had bitten the bullet for HDMI and HD audio. I am happy to say, almost all have: some with products ready to ship; some with availabilities before the end of the year; and some with prototypes and promises for the 2009 CES in January. To list and illustrate them all would take more energy than I can conjure at this late day but here are a few.

McIntosh loses AVA wins!!! Using 2 P500 AVA OmegaStar EX (1400W+ in mono) amplifiers to two McIntosh MC5501 500 watters, AVA does it better, for less. Big time better. AVA knows ckts. No magic wires needed. Better bass detail, mids better, AVA, better ckts, means better sound. For less cash, cus' the sound is in teh ckt designs, and componets inside, not the magic cases or wires. If it's sound ya want and money left over Legacy/AVA, sonic bliss. Fun day at the sonic shootout....I love it when I'm RIGHT!!!! Those Whispers sounded Fantastic!!!

Well, it looks like a McIntosh but look at it. It consists of a two-channel preamp/amp (75wpc) with a prominent tube stage and characteristic McIntosh power transformer. Docked underneath is an SACD/CD player, and a pair of speakers complete the ensemble. Price is expected to be in the $6000

Jimmy Hamilton was a featured clarinetist with Duke Ellington for nearly 20 years and is probably not well known by a lot of people. He is not a bold musician and on this CD plays both the Clarinet and Sax. This album recorded by Rudy Van Gelder in 1961 however is a treasure of pure jazz. Playing with Tommy Flanagan and Wendell Marshall this CD is a pleasure to listen to with some great blues and other bopping trends. The audio recording is everything you would expect from a Rudy Van Gelder recording and sounds great on hi-fi.

Hello ...

I am in the market for a budget-priced SACD/HDCD/DVD-A player for a modest 2-channel Hi-Fi system. I can find remarkably little information in these forums on the DV-7600. Anybody use one and have an opinion on it or have a better recommendation?

While most of the speakers at CEDIA seem to be designed for concealment, from on-wall to in-wall and, even, <I>behind</I>-wall in the case of the Stealth Acoustics designs. The latter mount in the wall but with the expectation that the installer will plaster over them. As a result, no pix from me but you can imagine what they look like by viewing your own wall.

Hi

Muti's debut now hes been appointed is Verdi's Requiem.

I understand that this is a very famous and respected work, but ive listened to a little of it, is it all so dull and deathly ??? does it ever cheer up or does the whole peice stay somber and dour ? just seeing if I should keep my ticket.

Im not passing judgement on the undoubted merits of a well known peice of work, just trying to see if its right for me. Im beginning to think that any classical vocal work is a much further step over the classical divide than the orchestral music im really getting into.
