In the latest review for the Esoteric Media server N-01, I fail to see the purpose of such a device. It doesn't store any media. As far as I can see, it's just a DAC that can be connected to a hard drive and controlled with (a tablet?). Couldn't one just store the files on one's computer hard drive and output to a dac for one-tenth the price. I don't understand how and why one would need a network media server, much less one without even any storage. I have a computer and dac connected to speakers in my office, and a disc player I use in the living room. What advantages would a media server give? As far as I can see, the only outputs are by cable, correct?
