I am looking at TTs that would be in my budget to upgrade my old Pioneer PL7 such as the Music Hall 2.2. I am seeing a dearth of options for automatic TTs. I am sure cost is one aspect but I am seeing much more expensive models that are also manual, as well.
My rant is this: I understand that simple and solid is better for a TT, but doesn't anybody else fall asleep listening to a record? I dont want my needle rubbing all night long. Plus schlipping sound might give me weird dreams.
Can someone offer thoughts on this? I love the simple clean look of a manual as much as the next guy, but, is it a badge of audiophile honor to always manually operate your turn table and to be sure to stay conscious while it is in operation? Or (more likely), are there practical engineering concerns at play?
