Shayne, I just read up on the specs for your gear. JA's measurements show your Totem 1 signatures are a moderate load. If you felt your speakers sound a bit lean and rolled off, bi-amping can breathing new life into your speakers. But note that whilst bi-amping with the Roksan power amp will give you a lot more power & control, the tonal balance would pretty much stay the same.

However If your current amp is driving your speakers well, but you're just looking for more warmth and body, I would suggest auditioning other integrated amps which have the sonic qualities you're looking for. There are also some good finds on the used market. If you're in the US or Canada, this Coda integrated is worth a look - http://www.usaudiomart.com/details/649414979-coda-csi-integrated/. It would give you the sonic qualities you're looking for & provide a lot more power and control than your current amp. Coda was formed by ex-Threshold engineers in their heyday and punch well above their weight. Food for thought.

Hi

I have a Roksan Kandy K3 Integrated Amp (140-watts per channel into 8 ohms and 220-watts into 4 ohms) and Totem Model-1 Signature (4ohm) speakers, which can be bi-amped. I love the clarity of the sound, but was wonder if adding the K3 Power Amp would add some additional warmth and body to the sound?

As a newbie I'm not sure when it is appropriate to add a power amp with an integrated amp.

Thanks and take care,
Shayne

You have more power than you need with your current amp.

An additional power amp would not be appropriate or useful.

Perhaps. However the OP was just enquiring if bi-amping with a power amp from the same family would give him the additional warmth and body he is looking for.

Thanks

I already have the integrated amp, and I understand a power amp from the same line wouldn't add warmth or body to the sound. But if I looked for a non-Roksan power amp which would influence the sound more, the integrated pre-amp or a power amp?

Thanks and take care,
Shayne

Shayne, At the 2015 Munich High End show, Vitus were bi-amping a pair of Gauder Akoustic RC-7Mk2's with a Vitus SIA-025 integrated amp driving the mid/highs, and a Vitus SS-025 power amp driving the bass. That combo worked extremely well. Also a well worn path with classic Infinity speakers like the RS1B and IRS-Beta is bi-amping with big iron like a Threshold power amp driving the bass towers & ARC tubes driving the mid/high wings.

The main thing with mixing different amps when bi-amping is to avoid any impedance issues & ultimately let your ears decide. That said, I wouldn't get hung up on bi-amping to achieve what you're looking for. Those examples above are power hungry speakers. If you're after more warmth and body, the best value option would be looking for a better integrated amp which has the tonal qualities you're looking for. That will also save you money on cables.

Hi...i am a new user here. As per my knowledge if speakers sound a bit lean and rolled off then bi-amping can be a life line for your speakers. Also bi-amping with the Roksan power amp will give you a lot more power & control, the tonal balance would pretty much stay the same.
