I recommend an OPPO BDP-103.
Rotel, Cambridge Audio, NAD, Music Hall/Creek spinners, for openers.
Although I haven't heard the 103, the 105 is to die for, and it does EVERYTHING - DAC for an external USB hard drive, bluray, SACD, DVD-A, HCCD, CD discs. The 103 is about $500 and the 105 is about $1200 (the 105 has better DA converters). $500 may seem like a lot at first blush, but it's probably the last player you'll ever need to buy.
The Oppo BDP-103 is great. If $500 is too much look at a Marantz CD5005 at $399 or an NAD C 516BEE for $299. I would consider them in that order.
f you are willing to consider refurbished equipment, check out accessories4less. They have the Marantz CD5005 for $299, and the CD6005 for $399.
Then, how large is digital files collection? Vinyl? Other?
What are your goals as far as source? Invest in more CD's? Vinyl? FLAC Files/Files in general?
After answering these, that will put a weight on how much to spend for a CD player.
Also, is it ok to ask how much you can safely spend?
To give my personal experiences, I own 5,356 FLAC/iTUNES songs, about 20 CD's, and 60 records. I just got into Vinyl and CD recently, but I know CD is a "dying" format, and Vinyl is on a huge come back, and FLAC/files is the future.
So, I have invested most in an amp, followed by my DAC, followed by my Turn Table, followed by my CD Player; in that order. Your speakers are exceptional. no need to discuss them.
Needless to say, although I invested the least in my CD Player, to be exact $225 refurbished NAD 516BEE, I am getting it to sound very very good on its own through some tips and tricks found on this site and others; but if you don't want the hassle, I also find it performs extremely well above its price point by running it though my PS Audio DAC....or certainly just purchase one of the Oppo units previously mentioned in this thread. From what I have read review wise and listener wise, Oppo = affordable quality that would be a step up from my NAD.
Just some ideas..
Kind Regards,
Ron
